Mogul Toy Of The Day: The $80, Caviar-Topped Hot Dog
10:00 am, July 17th | by Hillary Reinsberg
Oh, of course they did! The attempt to glamorize street food to impossible heights continues. Today, meet the $80 hot dog.
Should that $5,000 Vietnamese Pho soup be a bit eh, sophisticated, for your eager-to-spend wallet, well, the half-pound $80, caviar-topped hot dog might be more to your liking.
According to the New York Daily News, the dog is the brainchild of Massachusetts baseball team the Brockton Ro, in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record…for the most expensive hot dog. They’ll serve up the dog at their game next week, in honor of National Hot Dog Day. Forking over $80 will get you a deep-fried half-pound hot dog topped with caviar, truffle oil and porcini dust.
Though those ingredients sound fancy, forgive us for saying this kind of sounds like a ripoff. As any gourmand should know, truffle oil isn’t even made from real truffles…and porcini dust is well, dust. That had better be a heck of a lot of caviar.
