Coulter: Maybe We Should “Imitate” Liberals And “Go After The Obama Children”
3:00 pm, March 22nd | by Laura Donovan
Don’t stoop to their level. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Kill ‘em with kindness.
These childhood values we were taught to uphold are now lost on New York Times bestselling author Ann Coulter, who joked on Sean Hannity’s show Wednesday night that the right ought to adopt the left’s tendency to pick on kids of conservative politicians “and go after the Obama children.”
Coulter’s suggestion comes after many attacks on former Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s children. Coulter attests that the left has been critical of kids of conservative figures before and that this may be our moment to fight fire with fire:
“They do go after the children. I just say that going after the children generally ought to be off limits. It has not been off limits for Republicans, though, conservatives have taken the Obama children off limits…Maybe it’s time to start imitating liberals in another way and go after the Obama children…By the way, that has been done grotesquely and viscously over the years by the left, including frequently outing gay children of right wingers.”
To be fair, right-leaning adults haven’t always been too grown up to pick on kids. In the 90s, Senator John McCain called then-first daughter Chelsea Clinton “ugly.” As pointed out by Raw Story, Rush Limbaugh picked up a photograph of Chelsea Clinton on his television show a few years earlier and said, “Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?” (Why.are.we.not.surprised?) Can’t a girl experience her teen years without the ridicule of public figures? To say offspring of liberals have always dodged this particular kind of victimization overlooks what Chelsea Clinton went through not too long ago as well as the fact that people on both sides can be especially vicious.
Coulter went on to reiterate that going after children is wrong for either party to do, but two wrongs really don’t make a right, and her overall message would have been stronger had she not mentioned the possibility of giving liberals a dose of their own medicine. Coulter is unlikely to ever poke fun at President Barack Obama’s daughters, but if their father remains in office the next four years, they could be subjected to similar hits that Chelsea Clinton, who was young during her own dad’s presidential days, sustained. Before you know it, people will be lashing out at Malia for “partying it up” in Mexico.
