Daily Mail Publishes Tasteless Headline About Guthrie Taking Over For ‘Old’ Ann Curry

It was mighty painful to watch former “Today” host Ann Curry deliver her tear-inducing goodbye message yesterday — especially alongside smug ice king Matt Lauer, who lacked the decency to give her a televised hug or demonstrate sincere compassion — but even worse to see the Daily Mail’s response to the anchor’s abrupt ousting. The day following Curry’s final broadcast, the U.K. publication posted a story with the headline, “Out with the old: Savannah Guthrie takes over Ann Curry’s co-host chair on the Today show… just a DAY after her tearful farewell.”

It’s bad enough that NBC couldn’t wait a single day to replace the clearly devastated Curry, but adds insult to injury to see the website highlight the fifteen-year age gap between Guthrie and Curry, the older of the two. The past week has surely been brutal on Curry, and whether she is really to blame for the program’s ratings decrease, the network and media have not handled her job transition very smoothly or sensitively. If Lauer’s Thursday display of apathy and heartlessness was not enough to make you hate him, the amused snapshot of him from this morning certainly is:

Must be nice to still have your “Today” position, sir.
