You've Got To Be Kidding

France Votes DSK’s Wife “Woman Of The Year.” Um, What?

France’s woman of the year is…Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s wife?

Strauss-Kahn’s wife Anne Sinclair stood by her husband (mostly) as he was accused of sexual assault and involvement in prostitution rings. Make of that what you will. Sinclair did have her own career as a successful TV personality, but somehow we think her marriage to the former IMF head as he achieved global notoriety is probably what tipped the scales.

For that, or some other mysterious reason, the good people of France went and voted her France’s woman of the year in 2011. Thank goodness it was only an online poll. But still.

She managed to beat out Jane Dough favorite Christine Lagarde, who actually, you know, took over the IMF after Strauss-Kahn got the boot for his allegedly bad behavior. And she also beat out Carla Bruni! What the heck?

Whatever. Here’s a photo of Lagade and Bruni being all, “Who cares about some online poll?”

Just kidding. Lagarde is actually in Abuja today talking (and taking awesome photos) with Nigeria’s president.

    Sympathy vote?

This poll have made people talk. A lot.  In the end, what we can say is that people surveyed by this poll are really dumb. Because they voted “woman of the year” the woman who (indirectlty) made the news, tabloïd style rather than political or economical or whatever-as-long-as-it’s-useful style.

Seriously, what kind of image of the women can that kind of insanity give to french people, or from french people abroad?! That you just need to stand by your unfaithful sex-addict husband to deserve this title?
How could women accept to be represented for the year 2011 by this woman, who, by her personal wealth helped her offending husband get out of a trial any normal convicted person wouldn’t have escaped from?

    (Disclaimer: I’m french)

Apparently potted plants are in short supply in France.
