So This Just Happened
Newspaper Refers To Argentinian President As A “B*tch”
12:00 pm, February 9th | by Amy Tennery
What, exactly, goes through someone’s mind as he or she decides to use the file name “perra” (“female dog” — or, in layman’s terms, “b*tch”) to save a photo of the President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández?
That’s a rather obvious question, now that a Falkland Island newspaper called Penguin News (a deceptively cuddly name for a rather creepy publication) decided to do just that, according to Atlantic Wire. Sure, file names don’t technically show up on a website — that is, unless someone decides to save the file for him or herself. Did that eventuality occur to no one at the Penguin News (a name which belies the grave seriousness with which I am trying to outline my thoughts)? Or does the Penguin News (now it’s starting to make me giggle) really want to the world to think that it refers to a major female political leader as a “perra?”
This incident, of course, we can add to the log of recent public dogging on female pols. At least this time it didn’t happen on national T.V. What can I say? I’m a silver lining kind of gal.
