Friday Flashback: American Flag-Clad Arianna Huffington Talks Political Satire In 1998

We enjoy following the current day-to-day lives of the powerful women. But sometimes it’s fun to look back and remember how those women ended up where they are today. Each Friday, we’ll dig up a vintage video starring your favorite leading ladies in their early days.

Before Arianna Huffington’s name was plastered across the Internet as the face of liberal new media, she was actually a conservative commentator. Towards the late 1990s, she became considerably more liberal. Here, in 1998, she’s speaking on a panel about political satire. Not only are her points interesting (she had just published her seventh book at this point), her patriotic get-up is also a-mazing.

That was quite interesting. You go Arianna. Now I’d like to hear something more recent to see if her concern is greater or less.

Her “concern” is measured by the size of the paycheck, period. She saw an opening to become a liberal pundit and make a profit, she jumped on it like Obama on arugula.

Wait, isn’t she a job creator?

Hey Tim Zank, maybe you can answer a question I’ve had for a while:  Why do you consider arugula a weird, exotic, or otherwise verboten item?

Because I’ve lived all over America.  I’ve lived in the south, I’ve lived in the east, I’ve lived in the west, and I’ve lived in the heartland, and I think arugula has been in almost every garden salad I’ve ever had, in every mom and pop diner from from Tampa to San Francisco.  I mean, if you’ve ever had a garden salad, there’s a high probability that you’ve eaten arugula.  It’s not like garden salads are terribly strange or unusual.

So what is it about this common food item that drives you good folk around the bend?

If you’re not setting yourself up for a massive arterial explosion with every bite of food you eat, you’re a faggot communist.

    She’s a social climber/gold digger. There’s more money in being a lefty.
