Beauty Pageant Bans “Home Wreckers”

It can be hard to cheer for unashamed home-wreckers such as actress Angelina Jolie, but that doesn’t mean women who have disrupted marriages deserve to be treated like second-class citizens.
Yet that’s apparently how things are going to be handled from now on in Taiwan, which responded to the apparent growing “concern” of celebrity extramarital affairs by enacting a beauty pageant rule forcing all contestants to declare that they have never stepped into home-wrecker territory.
“Beginning this year, each contestant must sign a declaration honestly stating she hasn’t been in any extramarital affairs,” Fifi Chang, organizer of the Miss Globalcity Taiwan Pageant, told AFP Monday. “Anyone found violating the declaration will lose the right to compete in the pageant… serving the purpose of correcting worsening social morals.”
We get that the pageant folks want each girl to have a squeaky clean image and all that, but this approach seems to attribute all home-wrecking blame to the women involved. Because guys are just animals who can’t help themselves, right?
