Bernie Madoff Loves Jail, Says It’s Safer Than New York

Bernie Madoff’s probably rotting away in a jail cell with no friends, right? Not quite, says his daughter-in-law. He actually loves his life behind bars…what?

Madoff’s daughter-in-law Stephanie has written a book about her experience over the past few years. Here’s what Bernie apparently told her about his prison life:

“I can’t walk anywhere without someone shouting their greetings and encouragement, to keep my spirit up. It’s really quite sweet, how concerned everyone is about my well-being, including the staff . . . It’s much safer here than walking the streets of New York.

As we wrote the other day, Stephanie is the widow of Mark Madoff, who committed suicide last year after his father went to prison. Stephanie has made it clear that she squarely places 100% of the blame for her husband’s death on Bernie, so you might want to take her words with a grain of salt.
