Birth Control Mandate Is Equivalent To September 11?
5:30 pm, August 1st | by Laura Simmons
Regardless of whether or not you agree with Obamacare, comparing the birth-control mandate to events like Pearl Harbor and September 11th is just ridiculously wrong. And yet, someone actually just did that — a member of Congress, no less!
The remarks were made today by House Representative Mike Kelly as he compared the terrorist attacks on “religious freedoms” to the birth-control mandate’s similar alleged attack on religion, specifically Catholicism. The mandate went into practice today and requires employers to cover birth-control costs in employee health plans without co-pay. This specific part of the Obamacare health plan has caused heated debates among politicians who believe that the government is imposing on religious values through the Affordable Care Act.
But while the mandate is in itself a controversial issue (24 lawsuits have already been filed), I think it’s safe to say that it is no where near as devastating as the attacks on Pearl Harbor and September 11 — to anyone. I’m all for politicians speaking their mind and advocating their beliefs, but comparing birth-control to catastrophic terrorist attacks that left hundreds dead is just irresponsible and in bad taste.
