Michael Bloomberg Hates Puppies
3:20 pm, October 14th | by Hillary Reinsberg
Michael Bloomberg (net worth $19.5 billion) loves to try and be a man of the people (despite the fact that he’s clearly not), by doing things that regular New Yorkers do. He goes to Yankee games, eats hot dogs from street carts, and he (sort of) rides the subway. But there’s one thing the mayor will not do: walk the dogs.
The New York Times recalls that Bloomberg’s longtime girlfriend, Diana Taylor, bought him two dogs four years ago, as a Christmas present (first problem — Bloomie’s Jewish!):
They are Bonnie and Clyde, the yellow Labradors who reside in the Upper East Side town house that Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg shares with his girlfriend, Diana L. Taylor. Just don’t call them the mayor’s dogs.
Four years ago, Ms. Taylor, a former superintendent of the state’s Banking Department, presented the animals to Mr. Bloomberg as a Christmas gift. The dogs could stay, he told her. But she would be looking after them
We’re not sure why we’re so surprised. It’s just that, well, Bloomberg kind of seems like a dog guy, right? Apparently, when people ask about “his” dogs, he corrects them to say they are not his, but “Diana’s dogs.”
From what we’ve heard, those dogs are perfectly happy being “Diana’s dogs,” no mayoral attention necessary. Taylor treats them to daily long walks in Central Park as well as a professional walker.
And hey, the dogs are named after famous Depression era outlaws. Pretty much everything Bloomberg stands against. How could you expect him to publicly like them?
