Bristol Palin Wants You To Know That She’s Not Living In Sin

Phew.

If you thought less of “Dancing with the Stars” finalist Bristol Palin when rumors surfaced that she plans to live with her boyfriend as part of the couple’s “trial marriage,” rest assured knowing she wouldn’t move in with a man unless he were to “put a ring on it.” In her latest blog post, the 21-year-old quiets the buzz around her oh-so-scandalous personal life and states she’s living in an apartment on her parents’ property while her new place gets renovated, adding “there’s no way on earth my mom and dad would allow a guy to spend the night here with me.”

To those who argued she was wise to shack up with her beau, Palin writes, “As that gossip spread a couple of weeks ago, people all over America were applauding me for –finally! – coming to my senses and abandoning my no-sex-until-marriage policy. Others are saying that me shacking up with my boyfriend is the height of hypocrisy. Here’s the thing. It’s not true.” She also cites a recent New York Times article that reveals cohabitation before tying the knot can backfire, charging:

These so-called “trial marriages” hurt men, women, and children. So, all of you girls who’ve said yes to sex in the wrong context to know this: you don’t have to say yes to living with someone in the wrong context too.

Though I happen to agree with Palin that living “in sin” can be problematic, preaching the “holier-than-thou” message comes across as a slap on the wrist as opposed to informative. More than anything, she shouldn’t have to explain her living situation to the world, and dignifying the invasive chatter with an explanation in addition to preaching about best Biblical practices feels highly unnecessary.
