Awesome: Bullied Bus Monitor Starts Anti-Bullying Foundation
10:45 am, August 23rd | by Laura Donovan
It ruined my week to watch the viral YouTube video of bus monitor Karen Klein taking abuse from abominable, monstrous students, but the upstate New Yorker has risen above it all and decided to put some of the hundreds of thousands she received in donations toward a new anti-bullying foundation.
Klein, who was given her very own vacation fund after footage of the brutal incident swept across the Internet, has started the Karen Klein Anti-Bullying Foundation on the website giveback.org.
“This is for education, for people who have been bullied,” Klein said. “The goal of the anti-bullying campaign is to help teach kids and teens about being kind, friendly and playing nicely with others. Because of my own personal bullying story, I’ve now decided to become an advocate of change.”
Klein’s daughter, Amanda, told CNN that Klein’s foundation will officially launch in October and that Klein, Miss Teen USA Logan West (also a victim of bullying), and Miss Universe Leila Lopes plan on touring around the country for the anti-bullying movement. Klein’s initiative will help fund anti-bullying causes and groups.
I still think Klein should go on as many vacations as she’d like, but obviously she cares enough about the kids of the world to look out for them, so it’ll be interesting to see how her tour plays out. Klein, if you’re reading this, please visit New York City! I must meet you!
