New ‘Carrie Diaries’ Trailer Slightly Better Than The First One

If “Sex and the City” is a franchise you wish would just die already, acquire some patience. The new trailer for SATC prequel, “The Carrie Diaries” has just been released and is not quite as insufferable as the preview that hit the web several months ago and made us want to #headdesk for three hours straight. The first preview, which features a moronic female high schooler telling virginal teenager Carrie Bradshaw that having sex feels like a hotdog going into a keyhole, was so annoying that it was pulled from the Internet. Thank goodness for that, because the new trailer for the January 2013 show isn’t as lame and won’t remind you of the lying idiots you listened to in youth.

The clip opens up to 1984, when young Bradshaw (portrayed by AnnaSophia Robb) returns to high school a couple of months after losing her mother. Don’t get all grief-stricken and teary-eyed yet, though. She spent a whole summer coming to terms with the death and is ready to begin pursing totally hawt boys. Who better than the new kid in town, right? But it’s a little difficult to focus on boys when your dad sends you to Manhattan to mature and start thinking about your career.

“The Carrie Diaries” explores Bradshaw’s first experiences in the concrete jungle — before she associates wild sex with the city. In other words, here’s the PG-rated version of SATC. I’m not into high school programs anymore, but I’ll definitely tune in for the first couple of episodes…and bet on whether the series will get picked up for another season. Any predictions?

Yeesh. While I appreciate the inclusion of Knives Chau and Martha Jones, the show doesn’t exactly remind me of Sex In the City so much as Boy Meets World. Will doe-eyed Anna Sophia Robb REALLY grow up to be chain-smoking Sarah Jessica Parker? I can’t picture it…but I’ll still probably watch.
