If you are of the school of thought that good girls finish last, well then this news will support your thesis. According to the New York Post‘s Page 6, Simon & Schuster has paid former XOJane writer Cat Marnell $500,000 for the rights to publish her memoir, How to Murder Your Life, later this year. This is a woman who has encouraged women to use Plan B as their main form of birth control, promoted her abusive drug and alcohol abuse and overall unstable life. And she has a book deal and a lucrative one at that. Of course she is the subject of controversy because her publishers, formerly Jane Pratt, could be blamed if she ever OD’d (which seems likely.) But clearly these publishers know with utter hatred of Marnel comes utter fascination. Jen Doll wrote last year, her life is fascinating and terrifying at the same time:
Watching all this happen is something like watching Lindsay Lohan cycle through highs and lows, denying but clearly struggling with her own addiction demons. We watch and wait and it’s cringe-worthy and awful, but it’s the proverbial car crash we can’t look away from. We know it’s going to end someday, and it’s probably going to end badly.
Well, though I don’t condone anything Marnell has done, you could possibly take these tips from her because she has a $500,000 book deal and you don’t.
