Today, Mattel released its new Presidential Election Barbie, a tradition it’s kept up for the last few election cycles. And once again we’re facing a presidential campaign in which Barbie was the only female “candidate” in the race. Sigh.
Between this — and pondering how much election Barbie reminds us of a certain someone already on the trail — we realized this isn’t the only one of Barbie’s gigs that hasn’t exactly been rooted in reality.

Ah, female bosses in movies. There’s always a problem, usually one of the following: they’re either heartless, negligent of their children, have a husband that hates them, a guy at work who’s getting in the way, or a combination of the above. Flawed, and sometimes awful as they are, they can be fun to watch (or unbearable). Either way, they’re worth talking about. Here now, we’ve rounded up some of our favorites, some of them good, some of them very bad — and most of them can’t seem to shake those pesky “working woman” problems. We know this list doesn’t cover all the bases, but think of it as a primer on the different types of power women you can expect to catch on the silver screen.
