And no, she wasn’t shopping — just eating some frozen yogurt and carefully scanning the newspaper.

Our source tells us that Madoff was spotted at the casual 40 Carrots cafe on the 7th floor of Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street. Good call, Ruth — we love the froyo there too! As New York puts it, “Several generations of midtown females have subsisted on the soft-serve frozen yogurt here during shopping expeditions.”

Happy (almost) Birthday, Martha Stewart! A source tells Mogulite that Stewart enjoyed a birthday lunch today with four friends at the Clam Bar in Amagansett, which, despite its Hamptons address, is a super casual seafood shack on the side of the highway with outdoor-only seating. Stewart blew out the candles on a slice of key lime pie and then drove off (she in the driver’s seat) in a black Chevy Suburban. On August 3, Stewart turns…wait for it…70. Girl looks good.

Last night we feted the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center at its fourth annual Spring Ball. We also caught up with some moguls in the house…

– Event Co-Chair and fashion mogul Tory Burch told us she’s jetting off to Taiwan on Sunday for the opening of a new store, likely the first of several new outlets in Asia (Burch said her label is planning to expand across the continent in the coming months). Burch was decked out in a jewel-toned purple Vera Wang gown, which she said her “friend Mario pick out” for her. And, for the record, when she said her “friend Mario,” she meant Mario Grauso, the President of Vera Wang. Sure. And I was dressed in a J. Crew skirt. Which my mom picked out for me. Take that, Burch!
