Admittedly, professional sports aren’t exactly what you think of when you’re talking about women-friendly industries. But allegations of unreported sexual harassment and misogyny at the NBA are even more awful than you would imagine. And what’s worse: the security official who was bold enough to try to put a stop to it says he was [...]

Not because it’s a “women’s league,” but because it’s just a bad business.

The Summer Olympics, in London? With all the city’s tony hotels, restaurants, and given its convenient European location…it must be a total mogul sell out, right? Nope. The high-end VIP packages are not selling. And we’ve only got a few months to go.

One year from now, the New Jersey Nets will be reborn as the Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z announced this morning. The team’s new name was decided upon by the Nets’ new owners, which include Jay-Z and the majority owner, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.
And we can now get a peek at the impressive new Barclays Center…

If you can’t sell one large part of a baseball team to one buyer, you should be able to sell lots of parts to several buyers, right? Wait, what?
That’s the logic behind Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz’s new Mets sales strategy. And it makes next to no sense.

And then we all let out a collective, “WHAT?!” So, now David Einhorn is not buying the Mets. The hedge fund billionaire was on track to pay $200 million for a minority stake in the team, which would provide the cash-strapped team with some much-needed funds. But the deal has fallen through.
“After months of negotiations, the parties were unable to reach agreement, and the Mets ownership has decided to explore other options,” the Mets said in a statement issued today. Is it just our imagination or is the judge in the $1 billion Wilpon-Katz-Picard suit enjoying this just a little too much?
In a series of reports this morning relaying the latest from in the Madoff trustee’s suit against the Mets owners, we learned that Judge Jed Rakoff will hold a hearing in October to determine whether to take this circus to trial — and that he’s set a date for that trial (March 5) oh, you know, just in case. We also learned in a hearing yesterday that Rakoff is a Yankees fan. Oh boy.

The name “Bloomberg” tends to pop up almost every five minutes doing what we do. Whether it’s reading one of the many news sources or watching the TV station that bears his name, or writing about the companies decorated with the information terminals that he thought up. Or there’s also the fact that he’s the 10th richest guy in America, worth over $18 billion – and also happens to be the mayor of New York City. Despite all that, current New York Jets player and former New York Giants player Plaxico Burress has no idea who Michael Bloomberg is.

Phil Anschutz already has a pretty tight hold on LA’s sports scene – he owns parts of the LA Lakers, the LA Kings, the Staples Center and the Home Depot Center. Now, he’s got the okay to take it a step further. He’s building a football stadium in the city. The only problem: he needs to find a team to play there.
LA’s city council voted to allow Anshutz to build a $1.4 billion stadium and convention center. Super. But before they get started, according to Bloomberg, the project will have to be approved by environmental agencies…and of course, Anschutz will need to find a team.
Ah, a football team. Shouldn’t be too hard to get a hold of one of those, right?
