In the “reasons never to move to Texas” category, 17-year-old Diane Tran was thrown in jail overnight and charged a $100 fine for missing school after a warning from a judge. This would be excessive even if she were missing school to hang out at a mall, but, in fact, she was busy working two jobs to support her family.

Some people think President Obama’s announcement in support of same-sex marriage was historic. Some felt it was too little, too late. Others, well… they weren’t particularly thrilled about the sentiment. And I suppose we can include Bristol Palin in that third camp.

New York State Senator Ruben Diaz apparently didn’t get the widely read memo that making Hitler comparisons never ends well, as the Democratic politician has just likened the anti-Semitic sociopath to pro-choice supporters.

I don’t mean to generalize, but there are an awful lot of trivial food-related controversies afoot. A few weeks ago, a group of parents in Park Slope complained that neighborhood ice cream vendors caused family problems, as their children would spot the treat purveyors and lament being unable to indulge in sugary bliss. Hillary Clinton has faced her fair share of unflattering comparisons over the years. She’s been called an “Ice Queen” and she’s been called the dreaded “b-word.” Not fun. But while those are certainly offensive and unkind, a new analogy may strain credulity to the max: Hillary Clinton as Snooki.

Hilary Rosen is a Democratic political consultant and the Managing Director of Public Affairs at SKDKnickerbocker. The Daily Mail, however, has a different title for her: “Lesbian democrat.”
It shouldn’t come as much surprise that this Hilary Rosen-Ann Romney controversy today would get ugly. After all, what Rosen said (that whole “Ann Romney’s never worked a day in her life” thing) was rude and uncalled for. But few could have predicted just how ugly this controversy would get. And boy has it gotten hideous.
