Cell Phone Execs Sorry About Giving 11-Year-Old Girl A Phone Number Last Used By Escort Service

After your phone dies, do you ever wonder where the number goes? I mean, sure someone else gets use of it, but usually the overlap between previous owner and new owner isn’t horrendously awkward or anything. You would think. And yet, sometimes, those two customers are the last two people on earth who should share digits.

That’s exactly what happened to one poor little Canadian 11-year-old girl, who was probably super psyched to get a cell phone on Christmas this year, only to have her ownership cut short. Why? Because the cell phone company gave her a number that previously belonged to an escort service, according to the Daily Mail. And — wouldn’t you know? — the number was still listed on a number of “pay-for-sex directories,” which have names that I will not repeat or type here.

After receiving several reeeeally awful phone calls (again, on Christmas), the family contacted the company, Bell Mobility, and had the phone shut off.

The girl’s family eventually got a refund. Not that that really helps much.
