Cosmetics Industry’s Ugly Side: Why U.S. Makeup Companies Still Use Dangerous Chemicals

Not to be a total bummer (because we have our own kinda-sorta-semi-consistent beauty routine, after all) but all those cosmetics that some of us use are not so good for you. In fact, you could say that it’s one $50 billion industry that’s downright ugly. Yep, I went there.
Sure, you might already know that the FDA doesn’t actually regulate cosmetics, as this infographic compiled by CosmetologySchool.org (which we found at Daily Infographic) reminds us. That’s bad enough as it is. But did you also know that one in three brands of red lipstick contains more lead than the FDA allows in candy? Or that even U.S. baby shampoo often contains toxic flame-retardants?
