“Dirty Old Man” Hits on Marissa Mayer During Yahoo! Meeting

At a Yahoo! shareholder’s meeting, a self-described “dirty old man” named George Polis, a Greek tech investor, made CEO Marissa Mayer super uncomfortable by announcing that he’s very attracted to her.
During a presentation, Polis presumably strayed from the script (unless he planned to say this, in which case EVEN MORE EW) and commented on Mayer’s looks, saying, “I have 2,000 Yahoo shares, I’m Greek, I’m a dirty old man and you look attractive.”
It’s a shame that this gross remark got a big ol’ laugh from the male-dominated room. It’s also kind of ridiculous that Polis then casually “moved on to the next thing” and began talking about dividends. Oh, were you finished objectifying the CEO of this major corporation? We wouldn’t want to interrupt your sexual harassment and objectification. Done? Good. Now it’s my turn.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU BUFFOON?! Sure, Mayer is pretty, but this is a professional environment, not a bar. Complimenting a professional woman in a professional setting on anything other than her professionalism or character is totally uncalled for and utterly inappropriate, especially when that woman is your CEO and there is an audience to absorb your every undermining word. You don’t hear about female stockholders raising their hands at Google meetings to tell Larry Page that he’s super cute because IT’S NOT OKAY.
Mayer is a human being who deserves to be taken seriously and have her authority respected. You’re more than a “dirty old man,” Polis — you’re a dirty, old misogynist.
