Was Elizabeth Hasslebeck Fired from The View?

According to new reports, everyone’s favorite cute blond conservative is reportedly leaving ABC’s “The View” after nine years with the show. US Weekly reports that Hasselbeck’s contract was not renewed because she was “too divisive.” The magazine reported that an inside source said people were not watching “The View” because of the mother of three’s extreme views. As a result, the magazine reports that Hasselbeck was told on March 7 that she would not be returning to the show for another season.

Hasselbeck, 35, joined the show in 2003. Her only TV stint before that had been being a contestant on Survivor. Oh and she is married to former pro football quarterback and ESPN commentator Tim Hasselbeck. Rumors of her departure came just days after Joy Behar confirmed she would not be returning to the show.

However now Barbara Walters is refuting reports that Hasselbeck was being fired and is even leaving at all.  Early on in Monday’s episode of the talk show, Walters discussed rumors that Hasselbeck was being pushed off the show because of the conservative opinions she often voices. “There’s a particularly false story that keeps getting picked up about Elisabeth’s alleged departure saying we don’t approve of her conservative views,” Walters said. The truth is… we value and appreciate her point of view, it’s important to us, because it helps give the show perspective and balance.”

Walters made it clear the show wasn’t planning on getting rid of Hasselbeck, but she did make a point to add that she would support Hasselbeck if she should choose to leave which pretty much means she is leaving. But Behar has another show to fall back on. Elizabeth does not.

If both Hasslebeck and Behar leave they are going to have to do some major casting changes. But last time that went pretty well. After Rosie O’Donnell left (because Elizabeth kept pissing her off) they hired Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd, and we love those two!

    She needs to stay. That’s the only reason I would watch the View. Too much of the same is ridiculous and a very NARROW VIEW. Elizabeth represents my views. They need some divisivness for gosh sakes…otherwise BORING and not representative of all women!

    Barbara Walters said on the show today, that the stories of Elizabeth leaving were bull. So lighten up. Joy’s the one confirmed as leaving. And now let the gossip start of who will replace Joy. More fun.

    I love how her views are called extreme, but not the liberal loons who make up the rest of the cast. The others are WAY more outspoken in their liberalism than Elizabeth is in her Conservatism.
