Sad Day: Emma Watson Says She’s Not Being Considered For ‘Mummy Porn’ Fifty Shades Movie

As I’ve said before, E.L. James’s “Fifty Shades” series makes me hate everything, but I was actually intrigued by the rumor that “Harry Potter” starlet Emma Watson is being considered for role of main character Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation. At 22, she’s the right age for the part and seems more capable than anyone else of pulling it off (at least compared to some of the other stupid suggestions), but the British actress has just announced that she has not, in fact, been approached to partake in the “mummy porn” flick:

“I haven’t read the book, I haven’t read a script, nothing. There are so many movies you become attached to when I’ve literally never even received a phone call. It was the same way with The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo [buzz] — I never even saw a script.”

She can try to convince us all she wants, but her family was another story. Watson said she had to advise them not to believe everything they read:

“I told them just because there are 60 articles on the internet doesn’t mean it’s any less true than if there are three or four.”

Well that’s a shame. I hope she does get a phone call soon though, as she’d be the only redeeming part of the flick.

That would be a very, VERY surprising role from what she’s used to dishing out…some people can play a dynamic range, though…eh, I’m glad it’s not her. It would only bring her down.

I disagree. Yeah the part of Ana would be vastly different from Hermione, but Emma Watson is already breaking away from HP. She’s in Perks of Being a Wallflower and is really coming into her own as an actress. It would, however, change her brand. You’re right about that.

There’s something to be said for being the only beacon in the dark, so maybe it wouldn’t tarnish her for very long, but…well, I’m right now thinking of comparisons and only coming up with Liam Neeson in Episode I and Ewan McGregor in Episodes I-III. It didn’t destroy their careers, but…hm. Okay, maybe I take it back since I don’t really look down on either of them for something they’re not to blame for…
