EOD Roundup: Oscar Winners Thank Meryl Streep More Often Than God

In today’s EOD roundup, Slate’s interactive Oscar feature discovered that in the past eleven years, Meryl Streep has been thanked four times in Oscar winners’ speeches while God has only been thanked in 3. So, in other words, Meryl Streep has been thanked a total of 7 times. [Jezebel]

Everyone is angry at the creators of Downton Abbey this week but I’m angry at Vulture for reminding me of Six Feet Under’s series finale. I get that they’re trying to determine the best TV character death scene but now, after watching those final seven minutes for the umpteenth time, all I want to do is lie down in the dark, press my cats to my chest, and blubber, “Keith at the picnic! Oh god, Keith at the picnic!” with bits of chewed Oreos falling from my mouth. [Vulture]

Business writer Felix Salmon got into some hot water last week after asserting that celebratory, snark-free writing is a “female thing” and that “positive happy bloggers tend to be female, as do their readers.” As a female-identified blogger, Mr. Salmon, I must say that I’m not feeling so positive or happy right now. (But, to be fair, that may have more to do with the Six Feet Under finale than your sexist comments…) [Feministing]

Oftentimes satellite images are as beautiful and awesome as they are educational. NASA’s Applied Sciences Program director Lawrence Friedl hopes to drive home this fact and “get images of the Earth in front of people who aren’t scientists and researchers” in NASA’s Earth as Art project. These striking visuals will have you saying “nature be cray cray“…or something like that. [NPR]
