Google’s CEO Schmidt: “I Screwed Up.”

It’s rare that Google acknowledges being anything less than the leader of the world. But at today’s D9 All Things D conference, the company’s CEO, Eric Schmidt, said he’d “screwed up.”
Schmidt said his gaffes were in the social media arena — an area in which the company hasn’t exactly excelled. Anyone remember Google Buzz? Yeah, neither do we. Google also tried its hand at with the social network game with Orkut, but it hasn’t come close to competing with Facebook, which is quickly achieving world domination and approaching its 700 millionth user.
But is it a CEO’s fault? Schmidt says it is.
“I knew that I had to do something and I failed to do it. A CEO should take responsibility. I screwed up.”
We’re truly moved that Schmidt’s admitting fault, but we’re not exactly sure what the sob story will do for things business-wise. Pity Schmidt? Join Orkut! Who’s with us?
