If It Were 1750, The Whole World Would Be On Facebook
4:20 pm, May 31st | by Hillary Reinsberg
Would that have made Mark Zuckerberg God? (Juuuust kidding.)
A million users isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? 700 million users! (We all need to stop making this joke ASAP.)
Okay, not quite yet… but the social network is closing in on its 700 millionth user, according to Socialbakers. In 1750, that was the population of the entire world.
Obviously, people are freaking out about the milestone (Business Insider called it an “absolutely jaw-dropping milestone”) as The Atlantic Wire points out. That publication, on the other hand, says its just another metric, not much more exciting than the 600 million or 500 million user milestones. Well then.
No, 700 million doesn’t mean Zuckerberg suddenly owns our lives or anything, but it is, as Sean Parker would put it, “cool.” And on top of that, it’s indicative of global growth. The largest growth in the last few months was from Brazil and Indonesia, so world domination is actually a term we can probably start using pretty soon.
