Forbes has released its “World’s 20 Richest Women” list, which makes us feel kind of how entertainment reporters must feel when the Oscar nominees are announced: it’s exciting, but totally predictable. Well, mostly, at least. There is this one fun gem: the creator of Spanx has joined the billionaire ranks.
Sara Blakely, of Spanx fame, didn’t make the cut for the top 20 (it’s 21 actually, thanks to a tie for #2), but nonetheless, let it be known: the 21st-century version of the corset has made a woman into a billionaire. The magazine has a nice story on her.
The top 21 range in age from 30 to 92, topped by Walmart heiress Christy Walton, followed by the constantly-in-a-highly-dramatic-legal-battle Liliane Bettencourt. Other notable names include Australian mining magnate and world’s worst poet Gina Rinehart and Susanne Klatten, the BMW heiress of Nazi sex scandal blackmail fame.
