Awesome: Gabrielle Giffords Meets The Pope

Former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has stayed pretty busy since leaving congress earlier this year and undergoing the ongoing healing process of the devastating Tucson shooting massacre. She recently attended the Salute to Freedom dinner, co-authored a book with husband Mark Kelly, and just had an opportunity to meet Pope Benedict XVI.
Upon traveling with Kelly to Switzerland’s European Center for Nuclear Research, she booked it for Rome and spoke with the Pope at the end of the his weekly general audience address. She reportedly kissed his ring and he held her hand. The meeting must have been cool for Giffords, but it was spouse Kelly’s second interaction with Pope Benedict, having crossed paths with the man of God at the International Space Station last year. I’m sure Kelly enjoyed sharing that experience with his wife this time around.
