So This Just Happened
UK Town Makes Even Street Signs Gender Neutral

How politically correct is too politically correct?
As we roam the streets, we’re often bombarded with sexist or otherwise prejudiced images. We’re not usually offended by streetlights, though.
One particularly mindful town in England just changed the wording on its street signs so that the character in the “WALK” sign is identified as a figure, and not a “man,” the Daily Mail reports. The signs in Lincolnshire County originally said “Cross only with green man,” but have been changed to say “Cross only with green figure.”‘
Too much?
Look, we can’t really complain that a town chose to be almost overly politically correct, but it’s important to recognize that this isn’t much more than a band-aid kind of sexism fix. So yes, women walking to work might not be confronted with the word “man,” but once they get to the office, they’ll probably still be experiencing some form of regular ol’ sexism.
