Little Girls Say They’d “Like To Splatter Across The Glass Ceiling” In New Girl Scouts Ad

A new ad campaign sponsored by the Girl Scouts uses celebrities and little girls to try to turn stereotypes about women on their heads. In sarcastic protest the girls proclaim: “I’d like to drop out of high school and get a job that makes me feel bad about myself,” “I want to splatter against the glass ceiling,” and “I’d like to fall victim to the old boys’ network.”
When girls suddenly start saying they want to be marine biologists or the president, laughter erupts at first, but is quickly replaced by a whole slew of girls proudly sharing their ambitions and deciding to give peer pressure a slap in the face. It’s cute, and we’re all for encouraging girls to go for the gold, even though we don’t buy into the idea that girls would be laughed at for sharing their ambitions to become “marine biologists” or “world-class chefs?”
The celebrity video, which features girl-friendly characters like one of the stars of the tween hit Pretty Little Liars, is your more straightforward “listen to me because I’m a celebrity, isn’t that funny?” kind of promos. What does that mean? Oh, just watch the videos below:
