The Top 5 Former Girl Scouts Running The Business World

It’s the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts — and cookie selling season is underway! We’re celebrating by taking a look at some of the most successful women who spent their youths as scouts. And by eating a lot of Thin Mints! If you take a look at this list, you’d think joining the Girl Scouts was a surefire ticket to leading corporate America.

This time around, we stuck with women in the private sector. Frankly, if you looked at all the women in Washington politics who started out as Girl Scouts, this list would be endless: Hillary Clinton, Madeline Albright, Janet Napolitano, Janet Reno, Condoleeza Rice, and dozens of Senator and House Representatives.

1.Ellen Marram, Former CEO of Nabisco And Tropicana

Ellen Marram was the CEO of Nabisco and Tropicana, which were bought out by Kraft and PepsiCo., respectively. No big deal. Now she's the President of a business advisory firm called the Barnegat Group, while serving on the boards of Ford and The New York Times. Again, no big deal.

2.Katie Couric, News Anchor

Do we need to tell you who Katie Couric is? No, because you already know that she was the first solo female host of a major network weekday evening news program. The former Today show host is now planning her new show, set to premiere later this year.

3.Lois Juliber, Former Vice Chairman of Colgate-Palmolive

Who said women were underrepresented on corporate boards? Lois Juliber made a name for herself at Colgate-Palmolive, where she served as Vice Chairman for many years. Now, she's a director on a bunch of major boards: DuPont, Goldman Sachs and Kraft. She's also Chairman of the MasterCard foundation.

4.Susan Falk, CEO of Betsey Johnson

Susan Falk currently serves as the CEO of funky women's retailer Betsey Johnson, a position she's held since September 2010. Before that, she ran things at another women's clothing giant, Express.

5.Gloria Steinem, Journalist And Feminist Entrepreneur

Gloria Steinem was unarguably the face of women's rights for the second half of the 20th century. She's written some of the most important content on working women (and a million other things) -- and also founded the groundbreaking Ms. magazine and the Women's Media Center.
