1:00 pm, December 22nd | by Hillary Reinsberg
A lot of people are none too pleased about the upcoming sitcom Work It (including us), in which two dudes pose as women in order to score a job. GLAAD, in particular, has been particularly vocal in opposition. Today, the organization took it a step further, with a critical full page ad in Variety.
The ad reads:
Next month, ABC plans to premiere the show Work It, featuring two men who dress as women in order to gain employment.By encouraging the audience to laugh at the characters’ attempts at womanhood, the show gives license to similar treatment of transgender women.
But GLAAD doesn’t simply take ABC down for its poorly-conceived show. Instead, the organization expresses disappointment, given what they call a “a record of positive portrayals of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.”
