Some casting news that is just as strange and unexpected as Mel “Sporty Spice” C singing Sondheim: mumblecore queen and the final form of every girl in her first year of college currently listening to the Once soundtrack Greta Gerwig has signed on to How I Met Your Dad, the upcoming spin-off pilot to CBS’ inexplicably popular How I Met Your Mother. Frances LOLWUT?
Like you, we initially found Gerwig’s casting as the female Ted Mosby utterly bewildering, but things became increasingly clear once we read the character description: THR reports that the Golden Globe nominated actress will play Sally
…a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year. A break-up is inevitable, but Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who are often too willing to give ‘good’ advice that can backfire badly. Meanwhile, Sally must filter out the input and decide what’s best for her.
The puzzle pieces are all coming together, eh? Gerwig will also receive a producer credit and is expected to join the writing staff, should the pilot be picked up to series. Original HIMYM co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will serve as writers and EPs on the new series, along with Up All Night creator and SNL staff writer Emily Spivey.
We don’t know what Gerwig’s casting signals in terms of How I Met Your Dad‘s quality, which is actually a good thing. We never expected to be surprised by this show. If all of HIMYD‘s moves remain this unpredictable, we may just have to tune in.
