We’re all about throwing around money to fuel the economy, but come on guys — 17 billion dollars on presents? Really?

Everyone does it, you don’t have to be ashamed. But pilfering your office’s supply closet doesn’t have to be a mundane or even dreaded task of searching through dozens of filing cabinets in order to find that perfect paperclip. Or, at least, it shouldn’t be. A USB that vacuums your desk, a machine that turns your old memos into toilet paper — these are some of the truly bizarre office supplies secretly on our wish lists.

Just when you were willing to throw in the towel and concede victory to a life of sitting on the couch and spending quality time with your T.V. boyfriend, Match.com, the world’s largest online dating site, released new data on singledom today, in its second annual “Singles in America Study.” Why singles need to be addressed as a separate species from the rest of the world we may never know, but some of their findings are sure to be, well, a little bit mind boggling.

Yep, sometimes women are still forced to choose between work and family– and many employers still find it easy to push pregnant women out of their careers. In a very worthy op-ed in the New York Times, we see that “thanks to a gap between discrimination laws and disability laws,” employers can fire pregnant women with legal impunity. Silver lining? New York State Senator Liz Krueger is currently pitching legislation to protect working moms-to-be. [NYT]
