Lay Off ‘I Just Want To Ride Bikes With You’ Woman

I recently read an interesting tweet that went along the lines of this: “Some people say they are their own worst critics. These people have obviously never been faced with Internet commenters.” That best describes my feelings towards a viral YouTube video, “I Just Want to Ride Bikes With You,” which a woman made for her husband as a surprise wedding reception clip. The music video has already made the rounds online, and while it’s definitely corny and annoying, nothing warrants the backlash the lady who created the video has received.

Before the original clip disappeared from YouTube, the description read as such:

This surprise wedding music video was created for my husband Todd Evan Krieger in Venice Beach, California and unveiled for him at our wedding reception in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Hats off to our beautiful cat Balka…and of course my amazing husband Todd whose love inspired this video!!! Everything’s okay-o when I’m with Tadeo.

There are a lot of obnoxious elements to the song, and I’m not even going to get into the vomit-inducing nickname she coined for her husband, Todd (“Tadeo”), but I don’t see a need to trash the bride for doing something nice for the person she married. Emily McCombs of xoJane.com recently pointed out that women are often smeared for openly celebrating engagements and pregnancies, and nobody should have to tone down their elation to please people who may not be as happy with their own lives.

The lyrics in this video are lame, but the woman played it at her nuptials. Why we should care how she decides to spend the biggest day of her life is beyond me.

Let me guess… Women hated it because they were jealous of the time, effort and love this woman put into making that video… And men hated it because they never had a woman do anything even close to that loving and sentimental for them. Corny? Perhaps. Touching? Absolutely. This Todd character is one lucky guy. I nominate her for the Nobel Romance Prize.
