Is Katie Holmes Leaving Acting For Law?

What is happening with Katie Holmes career? One day she is just a sweet girl on a hit WB show about a creek, then she has a hot film career, then she’s Tom Cruise’s wife who dabbles in fashion, then she’s a Scientologist escapee, then she goes back to acting and now the rumor is that she may be applying to law school.
From the National Enquirer (so, uh, grain of salt here):
“Katie started acting when she was a teenager, and she’s grown tired of that world,” said a source. “She expressed a keen interest in law while splitting from Tom Cruise, and now that the divorce is finalized, she has the time, the money, and the opportunity to go to school. More importantly, she wants to be a strong female role model for her daughter Suri.”
Plus, Katie’s father is a well-known Ohio attorney, Martin Holmes, who conveniently specializes in divorce law and helped Katie execute her stealth divorce from Tom. Martin Holmes is like a ninja; that thing was resolved in, like, two weeks. Kim Kardashian can’t get a divorce after over a year.
According to Above The Law, “Katie’s father and brother, Martin J. Holmes Jr., both went to the Toledo Law, 129th best law school in the nation. Given that Katie would be a legacy admit and the school’s median LSAT score is a 153, she wouldn’t even have to try very hard (…or at all?) to get in. But as noted over at the Faculty Lounge, she’d have to complete her bachelor’s degree first.
Katie was accepted to Columbia University but in the spring of her Senior year in high school she was offered the role that would jump start her acting career, playing Joey Potter on Dawson’s Creek. The Faculty Lounge pointed out that she could attend the California accredited Southern California Institute of Law. Apparently a college degree is optional for that place. However, that may have something to do with a 0% pass rate for the California bar.
But why now? Sure, her Broadway play Dead Accounts didn’t get to do its full run but Katie has so many other things in the works. She is going to be in a romantic comedy with Chace Crawford, she’s writing a screenplay, working on her fashion line (though it will not be showing at New York Fashion Week) and is the new spokesperson for Bobbi Brown.
Odds are that law school is probably not in her future, but wouldn’t it be great? She could star in her own Legally Blonde reboot.
