The More You Know
Jane Fonda: ‘I Wasn’t Happy When I Was Young’
12:30 pm, December 14th | by Laura Donovan
Actress Jane Fonda was as gorgeous as ever during her fitness-heavy youth, but as we learned earlier this year, she was hardly secure or sexually satisfied in youth. The “Georgia Rule” star, who said over the summer that her sex life is more fulfilling now than it has ever been, reiterated the same message during a new interview with Katie Couric.
“I came from a long line of depressed people. As I started getting older, I realized, ‘I’m so happy!’” the 74-year-old said during an episode of Couric’s program. “I didn’t expect this! I wasn’t happy when I was young. And there’s all kinds of reasons but obviously part of it is I’m blessed with health and…I’m loving my life with friends!”
Fonda agreed with Couric’s claim that older women are less timid than their young counterparts, adding, “We’re not scared anymore! What have we got to lose?…We know who we are…Real love and intimacy can be much more possible when you’re older.”
The entertainer made similar remarks in July, when she gushed that she was completely dazzled by flame and music producer Richard Perry:
“The only thing I have never known is true intimacy with a man. I absolutely wanted to discover that before dying. It has happened with Richard, I feel totally secure with him. Often, when we make love, I see him as he was 30 years ago. At 74, I have never had such a fulfilling sex life. When I was young I had so many inhibitions – I didn’t know what I desired.”
I guess that means we shouldn’t worry if we’ve only known disappointment and letdowns in relationships!
