Jennifer Lawrence Doesn’t Waste Her Time Washing Hands In The Bathroom

There’s a lot I love about being from the west coast, but “Hunger Games” actress Jennifer Lawrence makes me wish I was raised in the south. The burger and beer loving Kentucky native, whom co-star Woody Harrelson said doesn’t have an arrogant bone in her body, is so anti-pristine that she’s against washing her hands after using the bathroom.

In her April cover story interview with Rolling Stone, the wannabe shotgun owner and proud foul-mouth said she did an experiment as a kid to prove that hand sanitizing after doing one’s business is “dramatic” and “overrated”:

“I had this theory that hand washing is overrated. And it was true: The bathroom door had the same bacteria as the toilet seat, and the sink was the dirtiest part – it was dirtier than the toilet handle.”

Call me disgusting and classless, but I think she’s onto something. Hopefully she’ll start a movement, which could boost our immunity, right? You obviously need clean hands when meeting new people, but when you’re mega famous like Lawrence, you don’t have that extra 30 seconds to waste or primp in the washroom. If you’re lucky enough to meet Lawrence, however, but be sure to bring some hand wipes.

Laura, nice dig at those that live in the south.  The arrogance and hatred of you libs for those in flyover country is disgusting.  You should be ashamed.

I am from the South and proud of it. But, I re-read the article and I don’t see the dig. Where is it?

I actually love the south…Sorry that didn’t come through.

Thanks. Didn’t mean to come off as anti-southern at all. I like their no-nonsense approach to things.

She’s saying she wished she had grown up in the South so she wouldn’t have to worry about washing her hands.  I didn’t find the dig that subtle.

Well as I said, it really wasn’t a dig. I merely like Jennifer Lawrence’s attitude.

Eww. Everyone should was their hands after using the bathroom.

I have to admit that I’m from flyover country, not too far from Kentucky actually, and I didn’t find this offensive at all. I really don’t think that was the intent.

I always have the most fun in the south! Warm weather, friendly people, excellent food, lots of outdoor activity. I miss it in NYC.

  • Lindsay Cross

Aw Laura, we aren’t technically the South, but Indiana is definitely flyover country. And I love it. The funniest thing is that we’re normally pretty kind and slow-to-judgment, which doesn’t seem to have resonated with one particular commenter here.

     Wow, man you are reaching.

    You guys are great, too!!!

You should go buy just a few more IQ points,  then you might reach moron status.

I’ve sped through flyover country as quickly as possible recently…I imagine that’s another reason why the journey is referred to as cross-country…it’s not worth staying long and there’s all those colossus white bisecting adjournments of faith along the highway.

  • Adam R. Charpentier

Agreed. The very fact that you mention bringing hand wipes skeeves me.

  • palindrome82

The bathroom door had the same bacteria as the toilet because of the people who didn’t wash their hands. And the reason why the sink had the most germs is because that’s where all the people who do wash their hands deposit their germs after using the bathroom.

Not washing your hands after using the bathroom leads to the spread of a number of diseases- both here in the 3rd world and in ‘the south’. You should be more responsible (sensible?) about the flippant celebrity advice you choose to espouse.

I think that if a public bathroom door opens inward, they should have paper towels so that you could use that to open the door, or have a kick bar (or whatever you call it) so that you can open the door with your shoe and not touch the door handle that everyone that didn’t wash hands touched.
