Jessica Simpson Is Adding A Sitcom To Her Fashion/Weight Loss/Reality Show Empire

When does this woman sleep? Jessica Simpson has taken on yet another project, but this one sounds super fun. Simpson is teaming up with Fashion Star producer Electus and NBC for an untitled scripted comedy based on her life, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show will be based on Jessica’s “colorful life.” I thought Newlyweds was based on Jessica’s colorful life, but apparently we need a scripted show too to get the full picture. But I wouldn’t underestimate Jessica — almost everything she does in her career these days is actually very smart and turns out to be massively successful.

“I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy. I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life, so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing,” she says. Jessica is kooky and candid, which is what made her so lovable with Newlyweds. She racked up countless endorsement deals as a result of her on-air foibles (remember what she said about Chicken Of The Sea?), appeared on countless magazine covers, launched a film career and released a third album during the three seasons of the show. “I never knew that just doing the show would give me that pedestal to step on,” Simpson told Blender magazine.

Jessica has great appeal because she seems like a very normal, flawed person. She says dumb things. She struggles with her weight. She has gas during business meetings. She got divorced. She is stylish yet accessible — perhaps one reason why her fashion line, The Jessica Simpson Collection, exceeded everyone’s expectations. According to WWD, it has become one of the most successful celebrity fashion lines of all time. It will most likely become the first ever to earn more than a billion dollars in retail sales. Her estimated net worth from her design empire is $100 million. “She is the girl next door and has great product that surrounds her. People like her. People look at her as a style icon,” said Vince Camuto, the founder and CEO of Camuto Group.

“We are thrilled to team up with the multitalented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops,” Electus founder and chairman Silverman said. “From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica’s character approach a variety of ‘everyday’ circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud.”

Think of what they could write for this year alone. She got pregnant and gained a ton of weight. Then she got a hugely lucrative deal with Weight Watchers, lost the weight and is now pregnant again! I mean, take that, Whitney Cummings!
