Joanna Coles’ Managerial Skills Will Be Put To Test On TV
12:30 pm, January 18th | by Meredith Lepore
If you like watching people compete for low-paying jobs at cool magazines with a Miranda Priestly-type boss, then we’ve got a show for you. New Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles and her staff at Cosmopolitan Magazine will appear on an episode of The Job, a new weekly series hosted by journalist Lisa Ling in which five contestants compete for their dream job at a prominent American company. On the second episode of the show, the contestants will be competing for an editorial assistant job at Cosmo. Sounds super fun right? Like The Devil Wears Prada meets The Hunger Games. But do these contestants know what they are getting into?
Joanna Coles, the former Editor in Chief of Marie Claire, started with Cosmopolitan at the end of last year. The Cut writer Carl Swanson sat in on Coles’s first editorial meeting and it sounded like an intimidating environment, to say the least.
From The Cut:
“Oh, you’re Jessica Knoll,” she says to a young woman in a lace top who writes a great deal for the magazine. “Kate told me you’re a rock star,” she says of her predecessor, Kate White. “But Kate’s gone, so it doesn’t matter now.”
If that kind of tension doesn’t make for good reality TV, I don’t know what is.
