The Top 5 Scariest Quotes From Joanna Coles’s First Meeting As Editor In Chief Of Cosmopolitan
1:30 pm, September 17th | by Sarah Devlin
The Cut sat in with Joanna Coles (formerly the EIC of Marie Claire, now the new editor in chief of Cosmopolitan) for her first meeting with the staff at her new gig. The only certain conclusions we were able to draw from the piece were that Coles must be a very intimidating boss, and she has a positively biting sense of humor. Here are your minutes for the meeting:
1. “Go on, anything else you’re scared of?”
“Um, everything.”
2. “Who has had good sex with a 42-year-old senior executive at Morgan Stanley?” Coles asks. Davies raises her hand. “Are you still seeing the 42-year-old executive?”
3. Oh, fantastic,” Coles says. “And you have to go [to the Maldives] now, because they’re about to sink: 350,000 people, and they’re all about to go under the water. So run, run.”
4. “Intriguing,” Coles drawls.
5. “Oh, you’re Jessica Knoll,” she says to a young woman in a lace top who writes a great deal for the magazine. “Kate told me you’re a rock star,” she says of her predecessor, Kate White. “But Kate’s gone, so it doesn’t matter now.”
