Jon Stewart On Palin’s “Today” Gig: “Cynically Exploiting Manufactured Notion Of” Herself

Sarah Palin and the “Today” show may have framed the one-time VP contender’s guest host gig yesterday as an epic time of reckoning. Like David versus Goliath or The Rock returning to WrestleMania. It’d could have only been better if every return from commercial were set to the Carmina Burana.

Of course, we all knew this was a little silly — including Jon Stewart, who completely ripped apart the entire guest spot, as though there were anything there to rip apart. How do you criticize segments that include Sarah Palin and Tori Spelling’s parenting tips? Really.

To be fair, Stewart gave Palin her dues, when they were warranted. He noted that she was “actually quite good and likable in this setting,” not unlike a set to $10.99 Ikea drapes in a dorm room.

But he also shared the more brutal opinion:

“I think it mean you’re cynically exploiting a manufactured notion of yourself as a crusader against a monolithic, exclusionary, activist liberal media, whilst actually enjoying a mutually beneficial, symbiotic relationship with them only to the detriment of the rest of the country.”

So. I think Jon Stewart may have taken the Sarah Palin “Today” show gig more seriously than any other person in the country. It’s Sarah Palin. On the “Today” show. Let’s all take a deep breath.

He’s right about the Iwo Jima-sized flag pin, though. Is it my imagination or do hers get bigger every year?

See for yourself in the clip below:

I think he made a good point later in the segment, though. The part about her judging the patriotism and basic “goodness” of people based solely on how conservative they are.

Jon, you’ve become way too predictable.  Can you libs just admit that Today wanted her because they knew she would boost their slumping ratings?  Of course, they ask her to come on and then you libs cry that she can’t stay away from the camera.  How about this, don’t beg her to come on and save your bacon if you don’t want to see her.

“But I do feel sorry for them and for their obvious need to compensate for something that’s missing in their own lives, which compels them to belittle others in order to feel big,” Sarah quipped.

By ‘them’, she had to mean liberals, men and women alike.

What a perfect description of Palin herself. She gets so excited criticizing a real live, Harvard educated, law professor and the President of the U.S. Talk about the opportunity to “feel big!” Palin is Obama’s stalker…screaming, begging for his attention. She certainly seems obsessed with his cajones.
