Karen Santorum: Scott Brown’s “Protection” Joke Was “Sort Of Funny”

You need a sense of humor to survive a presidential campaign, especially if you’re the wife of candidate Rick Santorum, who is unquestionably the easiest target in the entire race, due in large part to his rather unorthodox views on contraception.

During a Monday appearance on Piers Morgan’s show, Karen Santorum said she wasn’t all that torn up about Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown’s “funny” recent joke that Rick’s secret service addition was probably “the first time [Rick has] actually ever used protection.” Brown, who made fun of all the GOP presidential contenders save for Mitt Romney that day, seemed to be referring to Rick and Karen’s seven living children as well as the former Pennsylvania senator’s intense pro-life views.

“Sometimes, you just have to laugh,” Karen Santorum said. “I’ve reached a point now where I shut out a lot of things because I know that it can be really nasty. I continue to pray and I ask my children to pray for the other families out there who are also out there on this campaign because it’s hard for everyone, you know, I thought that was sort of funny. Sometimes you have to laugh and other times you just sort of shut it out and ignore it.”

Karen tunes out the buzz the same way we all hope to “shut out” and “ignore” the shirtless photo of Rick that surfaced on the Internet last week.
