Can Someone Please Explain Kate Walsh’s “Billionaire Boyfriend” Perfume?

When I first heard that actress Kate Walsh was creating a perfume called “Billionaire Boyfriend,” my initial reaction was something of the “Oh gosh, really” sort. But then I watched the ad for it, and I thought, “Oh, it’s just a joke.” But then I found out it’s actually real, and not a joke at all. It’s sold at Sephora! At which point I thought “what the hell.”

So the backstory here is that Walsh, the star of medical drama Private Practice, released a perfume called “Boyfriend” in 2010. Now, she’s pretty nauseatingly made the ill-informed decision to launch a follow-up scent called “Billionaire Boyfriend.”

Okay. What? It sort of seems like it’s supposed to be a parody right? But it’s almost too bad to even be a parody. And Walsh doesn’t seem to think it’s a joke…at all? She tells People: “The idea was always luxe. It’s kind of a throwback to times when things were just sexy and romantic, and that fantasy of James Bond movies, Monte Carlo, driving down the coast in a sports car … la dolce vita.”

James Bond movies do not equal four gold watches on one person’s wrist and weird poorly-executed faux gangster style! Also, in more proof that Walsh takes this thing seriously, she shares that the scent is “yummy.” Yummy!

Am I missing something here? I feel like I am. There’s a Sephora across the street from our office. I might just go investigate.
