Not This Again: ‘Married…With Children’ Actress Pulls A Hilary Rosen, Says Ann Romney Is Useless

Remember that time political commentator Hilary Rosen said potential first lady Ann Romney has never worked a day in her life? Yeah, we don’t like bringing up that awful time, either. It brought out the worst in conservatives and liberals alike and added nothing positive to the political discussion. That’s why I’m a little surprised by the audacity of “Married… with Children” star Katey Sagal, who recently went on Comedy Central to quip that Ms. Romney is about as useful as the mold growing on your shower curtain.

Speaking to Roseanne Barr, Sagal said, “Roseanne, I feel honored that you and I broke new ground as TV moms who didn’t cook, didn’t clean, and didn’t make any money. In the ’90s that made you a bad mom, but today it makes you Mitt Romney’s wife.”

Really? You’re going to go there after the country ripped Rosen to shreds? You have a lot of nerve, but if you’re willing to make another asinine suggestion that some mothers are better than others in the Rosengate aftermath, you deserve all the flak you’re going to get.

To be fair, she was not on CNN. She was on a Comedy Central Roast where absolutely everything is out-of-line and over-the-top. It’s pretty much the goal to be as offensive as possible.

I don’t think hiding under comedy makes a difference here.

  • Adam R. Charpentier

Agreed and though I like Sagal, she isn’t the voice I listen to when voting for a candidate.

Response to Lindsay: Then I would suggest that she succeeded in being offensive. And who dresses these women?

  • http://twitter.com/LauraDonovanUA Laura Donovan

Yeah exactly. Bill Mauer calling Palin the “c” word during standup doesn’t  excuse his misogyny.

Apparently, being in and around Hollywood and all the people who make a living pretending to be somebody we like, causes the majority of actors to despise their audience

”Ms. Romney is about as useful as the mold growing on your shower curtain”

    haha what?

EXACTLY. It was a roast. The rules are roasts are different. The entire point is the say the most provocative thing possible and this doesn’t even come close to being offensive or shocking. Really tame by roast standards. Context … it matters.

    I agree with Laura.

It’s not very nice to make a joke about how a rich woman doesn’t work as hard as a poor one. It’s kinda sexist, actually.Me thinks Ann deserves a lot more respect than that, and comments or lighthearted jokes should be off limit.

I remember how Moochelle”angry black lady” “uppity” Obama, and her”daddy, did you plug the hole yet?” kids, were completely off limit, and still are…what?…oh…wait.

    Forget I said anything.

    Cry me a goddamned river.

  • Benny

Seriously, this post is making me brutally bash my head against the wall.

It hurts like hell too,but I’m not gonna stop, cause this post is making me do it.

    Call 911,cause I ain’t stopping.I’m bashing away.

  • Benny

    Update:24 hours later.

Still bashing like crazy.I’m almost out of blood by now,but strangely, my sense of humor is still alive. So now,I’m completely confused, laughing like a crazy person, and dying.

    Thanks,Laura.

    *Bam!….Bam!…*
