6 More Women Who Have No Use For Feminism

In October, after Taylor Swift made some controversial comments about not wanting to be called a feminist, we rounded up some other famous and accomplished women who have also eschewed the label. In light of Carla Bruni’s recent Vogue interview, in which she declared that women today “don’t need feminism,” we thought we’d take another look at this growing trend. It’s always interesting when successful and powerful women, whose careers almost certainly wouldn’t have been possible without feminism, admit to being alienated from, uninterested in, or plainly against the movement. Here are six more women who have thumbed their noses at the label — what do you think about their reasons? Tell us in the comments.

If feminism was about embracing femininity instead of bashing men while trying to BE them, they would get on much better.

I wish a house would fall on Cat Marnell.

I don’t think it’s it’s intended to be that at all, though I think Fox News would have you believe otherwise.

Who is Cat Marnell? Unfortunately Carla Bruni is delusional, but then again she’s married to the President of the French Republic, so that explains it.

Yeesh. I mean, I understand that the F-word has a bad rep and all, but it still disgusts me when people say that they’re not feminists but totally believe in everything feminism stands for. You’re just contributing to the problem.

“But, of course, you might be asking yourself, ‘Am I a feminist? I might
not be. I don’t know! I still don’t know what it is! I’m too knackered
and confused to work it out. That curtain pole really still isn’t up! I
don’t have time to work out if I am a women’s libber! There seems to be a
lot to it. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?’
    I understand.
So here is the quick way of working out if you’re a feminist. Put your hand in your pants.

    a) Do you have a vagina? and
    b) Do you want to be in charge of it?

If you said ‘yes’ to both, then congratulations! You’re a feminist.”

Agree that anti-feminists are the ones pushing the message that to be a feminist is to be anti-male. A lot of non-feminists are anti-male and a lot of feminists are pro-male. We shouldn’t let enemies of women define feminism in their terms… and we should recognize that feminism is a big tent.

Anyone else detect the stench of white privilege?

The problem is that feminists who call themselves such generally think women who stay home with their kids are outdated and setting the movement back. This is crap and exactly the reason why people dont like feminists. My having a choice to have a career or be a wife and mother, or both is feminism not just the career driven mannish woman

Well, people will call themselves whatever. So they don’t want to be called ‘feminist’ – well, fine. If you believe in the principles of the movement, then whatever, your choice.

But to say that there’s no longer a need for feminism? What rocks have they been living under?

(And if I have to start chanting ‘feminine is not anti-feminist’ one more time…looks like a few of them haven’t looked into feminism since the 60s.)

You don;t think part of the problem is that feminism has become ridiculous in certain areas of life, and is tarnishing the genuine egalitarian basis?

  • stackhouse

A lot of feminists tell me, patronisingly, how good their movement is for me and other males. I can see that by how I am continually excluded from staff development programs on the basis of my gender. Just what I wanting,

  • Maria Sitanggang

I don’t like to be called a feminist, however, people around me say that I’m more than a feminist… funny, it’s just because I’m still single and too independent for my ex- boyfrinds …
