Does Kelly Clarkson Still Support Ron Paul?

“American Idol” legend Kelly Clarkson ruffled a lot of feathers when she declared her support for presidential candidate Ron Paul last year, but now that the election is here, is she actually going to vote for the outsider contender?
If her new interview with The Daily Star is any indication, no. The pop singer, who voted for Barack Obama in 2008, told the publication that our nation’s leader can count on her as one of his backers for another term, as she’s concerned GOP candidate Mitt Romney would do a disservice to gays if elected:
“I’ve been reading online about the debates and I’m probably going to vote for Obama again, even though I’m a Republican at heart. I can’t support Romney’s policies as I have a lot of gay friends and I don’t think it’s fair they can’t get married. I’m not a hardcore feminist but we can’t be going back to the 50s.”
It doesn’t hurt that the “Republican at heart,” who is from Texas, has actually crossed paths with the first family before:
“Obama is a great guy. I’ve met him and I’m a fan of Michelle too. She has been busy promoting better education and healthy diets, which is something we could all use a dose of reality on.”
Well, Ron Paul, in the words of Clarkson herself in 2004 smash hit, Since U Been Gone, “you had your chance, you blew it. Out of sight, out of mind.” Perhaps you should try to expand your presidential presence should you run again. There’s nothing quite like the “American idol” boost.
