‘I’m Dating A Pig, For Chrissakes’: Kermit ‘Breaks Up’ With Chik-fil-A Over Gay Marriage Controversy [VIDEO]
10:30 am, July 31st | by Amy Tennery
“Normally, when I break up with someone I just send a text message,” Kermit The Frog notes in this “breakup” video with Chik-fil-A, the fried poultry purveyor that’s come under fire in recent weeks for its president and CEO’s flagrantly bigoted remarks about gay rights.
But why is Kermit involved in this? And why is he “breaking up” with Chik-fil-A?
To understand, you need to go back to the beginning — roughly two weeks ago, when Dan Cathy, the aforementioned president and CEO, said “I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.” He also said some other awful stuff but I’m trying to eat breakfast right now and writing down his anti-gay drivel is making me queasy.
Coincidentally, Chik-fil-A happened to be dispensing a line of Jim Henson Muppet toys as part of its kids meals at the time Cathy’s statements emerged. And, as one would imagine, the folks who brought us “The Rainbow Connection” were none too pleased to hear about Chik-fil-A’s anti-gay stance. Shortly after the Cathy interview, Jim Henson Co. announced it was pulling its line of kids toys.
But faster than you could say “Statler and Waldorf,” Chik-fil-A also decided to pull the Henson toys, citing some mysterious safety concern. “Coincidence?” the New York Daily News wondered. Perhaps. But it’s a fishy move from a chicken joint.
Needless to say, Kermit’s had enough of this crap.
