What Not To Do When Your Dad’s Running For Mayor: Use His Opponent’s Sign To Light A Bong

Okay, let’s back up. Maya Caldwell is Kirk Caldwell’s daughter. Kirk Caldwell is running for mayor in Honolulu. And being the super supportive daughter that she is, Maya has some strong, negative feelings about her dad’s opponent, Ben Cayetano. How negative, you ask? Negative enough that she’d light one of Cayetano’s signs on fire. And use it to light a bong. And then take pictures of it. And post those pictures to Instagram.
The incident went down on Thursday, according to Hawaii News Now, and it didn’t take long (obviously) for news of the photos to spread like wildfire. (One of the photo’s captions was “bestest frwens a gurl cud have.” It was posted to an Instagram account titled @mayacaldwell.) For whatever it’s worth, Kirk Caldwell has already apologized publicly for his daughter’s actions.
Maya is reportedly moving into college in Massachusetts this weekend. I’m sure Kirk Caldwell’s campaign team is super upset to see her go.
