Leighton Meester Owes Everything To Gossip Girl

TV’s best mean girl, Blair Waldorf will be off the air soon enough, but actress Leighton Meester, who portrays the feisty Upper East Side resident in popular drama “Gossip Girl,” says she owes her entire career to the show.

Speaking to New York about the conclusion of GG, the 26-year-old said the program is ending at “the perfect time”:

“[O]ur contracts are up. I don’t think anyone wants to stay after their contracts. It’s been an amazing tool to learn from, and I owe pretty much everything — even this film — to ‘Gossip Girl.’ But…I was 20 when I started, and I’m 26 now, so you don’t want to be doing the same thing over a period that long. This has been one of the most awkward and great growth periods of my life. I’ve experienced a lot of different things, and it’s just time to do something else.”

Though the TV industry is certainly different from your typical 9 to 5 job, Meester provided some universal professional insight into the monotony of doing the same thing for far too long:

“[F]or me, creatively, it starts to get exhausting and sort of tedious. Whereas, doing a film, you do it, and then you’re done, and you can look back at it.”

So, to celebrate your favorite television frenemy, remember to keep things interesting at work and try new things once you start to feel like you’ve stopped learning. That’s what Meester, who has appeared in several films in recent years, seems to have done.
